Detached Youth Work
For the last two months I have been heading up a
group of volunteers to carry out detached work on a regular basis in
Wincanton. The group have been going out each Monday night for about
an hour, with the aim to engage and build relationships with young
people.
The aim of this detached work is to do two things firstly to
established new relationships with different groups of young people.
Secondary it allows us to continue to work with the lounge young
people without having the problems of a building and no male
volunteers.
We still feel like there is more work to be done with this group in
particular and hence every couple month we will be running trips as
well aimed at the lounge to continue to work with them and keep them
established as a group.
Although we have these things in place we are still desperate to
have male volunteers so we will be able to work with this group more
in-depth as the lounge are an all boy group therefore if you feel
like you could help by volunteering please contact the

Girls Group Drop-In
The girls group has been recently set up to support girls in years 7
– 8 within Wincanton and the surrounding area. The aim is to help
the girls develop positive self-esteem and self-image. It is also a
safe place for them to ask questions about practically anything!
(This means, physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually,
practical and anything else they can come up with) Although we may
not be able to answer everything, we hope that we can help the girls
find answers…
Currently we meet on a Wednesday from 6pm – 7.30pm in Templecombe
URC’s hall. We usually have hot chocolates, and plenty of chillout
time. The girls can come for as much or as little as they’d like
while we’re open. Check the team calendar for exciting things we
have planned for the group, or check out this half term’s programme.
As it is still early days we are still coming up with a group name
and a logo, but as soon as they are done they shall go here onto our
website!
